NATURE GIVES TO EVERYTIME AND SEASON, SOME BEAUTIES OF ITS OWN – CHARLES DICKENS.
I agree NO LESS – as indeed NATURE has this Day, This Time and this Season, given out a BEAUTIFUL Concept of a deep thought of a Legal man whose calling is far removed from ZOOLOGY, to think, To Write and to eruditively express on a Topic far removed from the Common Thought of MANKIND the World over i.e. HUMAN RIGHTS – TO ANIMAL RIGHTS and his thoughtfulness did not stop at simply ANIMAL RIGHTS as globally expressed and emphasized by the Association for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals – he has aptly brought his Legal background to bear by tremendously providing Legal Frame work for ANIMAL RIGHTS in his book over which, we are all here gathered to celebrate his maiden entry into the Prestigious World of Renowned Authors.
Ordinarily, I would have been too delighted to simply intellectually discuss the FRAMEWORK and the RIGHTS of his CONCEPT, but I rather would not want to DIGRESS, but explore The FRAMEWORK of my submission on ANIMAL RIGHTS AND RELIGION and explicitly confine my KEYNOTE ADDRESS to the ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE.

Being Key Note Address at the Book Launch of Barrister Sikirullah Olanrewaju Adewoye Titled – “LEGAL
FRAMEWORK FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS AND GAME MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA” Held – Thursday November, 15th
2007 (DHUL – QAADA 7TH, 1428AH) @ JOGOR CENTRE, LIBERTY ROAD, IBADAN.
Allah (S.W.T.) in QUR’AN chapter 3 verse 104 injuncted thus:
“LET THERE ARISE OUT OF YOU, A BAND OF PEOPLE INVITING TO ALL THAT IS GOOD, ENJOINING WHAT IS RIGHT and FORBIDDING WHAT IS WRONG – THEY ARE THE ONES TO ATTAIN FELICITY” and in Chapter 3 verse 110.
“YE ARE THE BEST OF PEOPLE EVOLVED FOR MANKIND, ENJOINING WHAT IS RIGHT – FORBIDDING WHAT IS WRONG.”
I want to Salute the WISDOM and COURAGE of barrister Zhikirullah Olanrewaju Adewoye for exploring avenues other than the ordinary and the common, by classically examining the concept of the RIGHTS of other creatures i.e. THE ANIMALS. I join others here converged in celebrating The Praise of Allah, The supreme, LORD OF THE THRONE OF MAJESTY and GLORY, THE CREATOR OF ALL, THE DIRECTOR OF AFFAIRS OF ALL CREATURES for this Day in HIS COURSE and in HIS GLORY for the AUTHOR and of course, The PUBLISHER AND importantly too, those behind the Corporate Veil of the Authors success so far in life as profoundly acknowledged by him in the book – GOD BLESS THEM ALL.
ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE
Flowing from the above, it is necessary for a clear and concise exposition of my submission, to explore the definitions of the KEY WORDS OF:
(A) ANIMAL
(B) RIGHTS
(C) RELIGION
An early ‘60s Oxford English Dictionary define the WORDS as follows:
ANIMAL - Organised Being endowed (more or less perspectively,)
with life.
- Other than MAN
- A BRUTISH MAN Etc.
RIGHTS - Of Conduct, JUST, MORALLY GOOD,
EQUITY or Duty, – PROPER, – Etc.
RELIGION - Practice of sacred Rites,
Prevalent System of faith, Etc.
With these clear definitions – Let us examine whether ALLAH merely created the ANIMALS for idle motives which is debunked in QUR’AN Chapter 21 Verse 16 thus:
“NOT FOR (IDLE) SPORT DID WE CREATE THE HEAVES AND THE EATH AND ALL THAT IS BETWEEN” – (Human, Animals, Sun, Moon, Stars, Wind, Rain Etc. are an inte’geral part of the “In between”).
A clear expression that ANIMALS (as Human Beings,) are created for a JUST PURPOSE of Allah – Like other creatures.
This injunction is further amplified in QUR’AN Chapter 6 Verse 38 Thus: -
“THERE IS NOT AN ANIMAL (THAT LIVES) ON THE EARTH NOR A BEING THAT FLIES ON ITS WINGS, BUT (FORMS PART OF,) COMMUNITIES LIKE YOU” An Attestation of Animal Rights to Life and Existence – Socially and otherwise.
Animals therefore cannot be excluded in our purview for we are, as Communities, sharing identical or some degree of RIGHTS with them albeit, on different outlooks to life, Socially, Economically and Religiously too.
So we should not in our Pride, VIOLATE their RIGHTS to life and existence as QUR’AN Chapter 5 Verse 2 explicitly injuncted thus:
“O YE WHO BELIEVE, VIOLATE NOT THE SANCTITY OF THE SYMBOLS OF ALLAH, NOR OF THE SACRED MONTH NOR OF THE ANIMALS…..”
From these submissions, it will be clearly seen and acknowledged that the SANCTITY of life and the Rights to Existence of the ANIMALS (LIKE MAN) on earth is STRICTLY observed and should not in anyway be ABUSED, VIOLATED OR DISREGARDED.
In passing, the SPECIFICS of their LEGAL RIGHTS as EXHAUSTIVELY covered in the Book “LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS and GAME MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA” should form a FRAMEWORK for future RESEARCH into areas hitherto succinctly covered in our thoughts for a New Outlook to these creatures in their Wild, in their perch, in their converge and habitat and in their communities, to PROFOUNDLY arouse interest in their RIGHTS so that the TIME, ENERGY, WISDOM and TREMENDOUS Legal FRAMEWORK which Barrister Zhikirullah Olanrewaju Adewoye dedicated his thoughts for in the Book is not LOST in THE STREAM and AARON REZNY’S Concept of A NEW WORLD, is then guaranteed for the ANUMALS – UNIVERSALLY.
